Wedding — England & Ireland
The songs for an English–Irish wedding, where both families dance
An English–Irish wedding does not have one taste. It has two repertoires, one floor and one night to make them a single room.
19 songs — 1h 15m — verified on 18 October 2026
What the two families actually share
The two sides of the floor expect to be harder to please than they are. England and Ireland grew up on the same broadcasts: the same chart, the same Sunday drives, the same soap-opera decades.
So the room unites on what both families know by heart — not on a compromise. A compromise is a track nobody chose. A shared record from 1967 to 1978 is a track both sides chose, decades before they met.
The rule of the night: no track belongs to one side of the aisle. If only half the room knows it, it waits until after midnight, when the floor belongs to whoever is left standing.
Where the Irish side leads
Ireland has its own canon, and it is not a footnote to the British one: Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy, the anthems every Irish wedding owns outright.
They go at the peak of the night, not as a token. The English side of the floor knows them too — that is the quiet point. An Irish song placed at the peak does the work of a bridge: it is the Irish family at its loudest, with the English family singing the chorus.
The bridges: records that belong to neither, sung by both
Every cross-channel wedding lives off four or five records that neither family would claim and every room sings: Come On Eileen, Sweet Caroline, Hey Jude.
These are not fillers. They are the moments the two repertoires stop mattering — worth more on the night than anything either family pushed for.
The 19 songs, verified one by one
The 19 songs play right now, with the year that explains where each one sits in the night.
A song shown in brass is a pépite — a real regional artist nobody expects — and it is there for one precise moment of the night.

What this list cannot know
It is built for a room of about 110 people, three generations, England and Ireland roughly even between them.
It does not know the song your two families already argue about, or the one the couple first danced to. Those two facts reshape more of the night than any list can.
